As a solo consultant, it’s easy to burn out. So many balls in the air, and all on you to keep them from crashing. Of course, you’d like to take a vacation.
But is it really a vacation if you’re just on your laptop in a different place?
And if you are really on vacation, what happens to the business development efforts, already precarious? Now you have a nagging feeling at the very time you’re supposed to be getting away from work and recharging (“recreation” is literally “re-creation”).
It helps if you’re already busy and booked out with client work when you return, but just in case you’re not in that situation:
- Schedule some meetings with key clients, partners, and prospects ahead of time. Summer vacations make connecting harder, so why not be preemptive? Even if you need to schedule 2 months out, that’s better than waiting 2 months, then having to schedule a month or two in advance. (Note that Mimiran now offers a scheduler.)
- Make sure your message is clear and easy for your referral partners. (And while you’re at it, why not try to have a few conversations with those partners and also send some introductions their way? See how to create a client referral engine.)
- Make sure you have one or more great Lead Magnets to help your *ideal* prospect start solving the problem you help them solve. Better to be very targeted and come back from vacation with 1 great prospect than 10 so-so prospects (more time for less results– see what if you need fewer leads?)
(If you don’t have a lead magnet, or need to update it, make sure to join the session on turning Zoom meetings into evergreen lead magnets, June 5 at noon CT. Register here.)
With that, I hope you can enjoy some refreshing time away from the office this summer, without coming back to a dried out business development garden.
